Ford Accelerates Expansion of Electrified Vehicle Battery Research and Development, Benefiting Customers Worldwide
- Ford is expanding its global battery research and development
footprint for electrified vehicles this year, adding research and
engineering capabilities in Europe and Asia to take advantage of new
market opportunities
- The company has invested in a world-class battery research and
development facility at the University of Michigan to accelerate
advanced battery research and development
- Ford is the top seller of plug-in hybrid vehicles and second in total sales of electrified vehicles in America and has recently expanded its offerings in growing markets, including China, Taiwan and Korea
DEARBORN, MICH., Dec. 10, 2015 – Ford is expanding its electrified vehicles research and development program in Europe and Asia this year, creating a “hub and spoke” system that allows the global team to further accelerate battery technology and take advantage of market-specific opportunities.
The global expansion also allows Ford’s Electrified Powertrain Engineering teams to share common technologies and test batteries virtually, in real time, to develop new technology faster while reducing the need for costly prototypes.
Ford – the top seller of plug-in hybrid vehicles and second largest electrified vehicle seller in the U.S. – continues investing in electrified vehicle technology, research and development teams.
This year, for instance, Ford expanded its Electrified Powertrain Engineering (EPE) program in Dearborn to focus on developing new and innovative technologies for electrified vehicles by hiring more than 120 additional electrified vehicle engineers and moving the EPE team into its own dedicated facility, Ford Engineering Laboratory.
The expanded engineering capabilities enabled by the Ford Engineering Laboratory allow the team to control a network of world class facilities in China, England, Germany, and the U.S. Through this network, the EPE team will take advantage of globally connected technologies to develop lighter and more durable EV batteries.
Ford also is expanding in China and Europe to accelerate battery technology research and development for new markets. By using an innovative hardware and software system called HIL, or Hardware-in-the-Loop, the global team can test battery technology and control system hardware in a virtual environment to simulate how batteries and control modules would behave in different – often punishing – environments in any part of the world.
Testing of batteries across a range of temperatures and charge/discharge cycling conditions is important for determining how quickly a battery could degrade in different parts of the world.
The global Ford team has used temperature testing extensively for more than a decade as part of its production battery design and validation process. Through testing, Ford has been able to develop more durable batteries that can survive extreme cold and hot temperatures.
“Batteries are the life force of any EV, and we have been committed to growing our leadership in battery research and development for more than 15 years,” said Kevin Layden, director, Ford Electrification Programs. “Battery technology has evolved rapidly since we launched our first volume electrified product, the Ford Escape Hybrid, in 2004, and we look forward to developing even better vehicle battery technology for our customers.”
The company recently expanded its offerings in growing markets, including Taiwan and Korea, where the company offers the Mondeo Hybrid. Ford also announced it is bringing the C-MAX Energi Plug-In Hybrid and the Mondeo Hybrid to China.
University of Michigan Battery Lab
In October, Ford, the University of Michigan and the Michigan Economic Development Corporation announced a new $9 million battery lab at the University of Michigan that is helping the company develop batteries that are smaller, lighter and less expensive to produce.
The state-of-the-art, small-scale manufacturing facility uses the latest battery development and research technologies to replicate the performance of full-scale production batteries, allowing for faster implementation in future production vehicles.
“The Battery Lab gives us an opportunity to test hundreds of chemistries and cell designs that can then be translated into the production line,” said Ted Miller, senior manager of energy storage strategy and Research. “This is truly a world-class environment for Ford to develop and test industry-leading battery technology.”

From Salt Spreaders to ATV Platforms: Ford Tough Tests All-New Super Duty Cargo Boxes with Aftermarket Equipment
- Testing was performed virtually using supercomputers to predict robustness and with maximum-loaded aftermarket equipment over some of the most extreme road surfaces available, from potholed durability courses to off-road terrain
- The all-new 2017 F-Series Super Duty is the toughest, smartest and most capable Super Duty ever, leveraging advanced materials to reduce weight and featuring all-new, segment-exclusive smart technology to help increase customer productivity, comfort and convenience
For the first time, the Super Duty body uses high-strength, military-grade, aluminum alloy, which is more dent- and ding-resistant than the outgoing steel cargo box and not subject to red rust corrosion.
The backbone of Super Duty is an all-new, fully boxed frame composed of more than 95 percent high-strength steel that is up to 24 times stiffer than the previous frame.
The new truck line also features heavier-duty four-wheel-drive components, driveline, axles and towing hardware than the current Super Duty.
Together, high-strength steel and high-strength aluminum alloy help reduce weight by up to 350 pounds. Ford is reinvesting additional weight savings everywhere it counts to give customers more towing and hauling capability than ever before.
“Ford Super Duty customers depend on their trucks to work hard every day across a variety of jobs,” said Kirk Leonard, vehicle integration engineer for Ford. “We drove prototype vehicles over the durability roads of the Ford Proving Grounds fitted with common aftermarket accessories to test the fitment and capability of our toughest pickup box ever.“
Before the first truck hit the roads at Ford’s Michigan Proving Grounds, plenty of upfront work was accomplished virtually using supercomputers to predict and engineer cargo box robustness.
“Our team of vehicle integration engineers worked together to develop a unique design approach with the Ford Truck Body Engineering team to drive optimized panel shape, added reinforcements and up-gauged materials into the pickup box – all of which were proved beneficial in our evaluation,” explained Leonard.
During the design of the new truck, Ford body structure engineers ran countless hours of supercomputer simulations with various aftermarket equipment examples to predict box load performance. The focus was to ensure the all-new 2017 Super Duty cargo box was as tough or tougher than previous models.
“Our modeling analysis enabled us to improve the structure and strength of the box in the design phase of the truck,” said John Comiez, Ford body structure engineer.
Throughout the evaluations on extreme durability roads and off-road terrain, and even after overloading select equipment, the new box design stood up to the abuse, run after run. Upon completing the challenge, the vehicles were examined in the lab by the team. No concerns were found in either the supporting structure or the mounting surfaces.
The all-new Super Duty will be built at Kentucky Truck Plant, and goes on sale late next year.

Grote LED Stop Tail Turn with Integrated Back-up
Grote 6" oval LED stop tail turn light with backupThe Grote LED S/T/T with Integrated Oval Back-up Light offers your customers a two-lights-in-one design. This allows them to install one light to offer both back-up and stop/tail/turn lighting. The lights, which are industry standard size, eliminate the need to install two separate lights to perform the same function, so customers do not need to add two holes and two light in the rear of commercial vehicles. The design also eliminates the need for a separate back-up light in power modules.
Another benefit of these lights is the Grote LED technology. This ensures a long useful life and reduces maintenance costs for the fleet installing these lights. Also, because these lights combine more than one function into a single lamp, maintenance suppliers and service providers can reduce inventory, SKUs and carrying costs.
Grote LED S/T/T/ Lights with Integrated Back-up are a industry standard sizes, so they can be integrated into the existing grommets on the vehicle. The symmetrical design ensures they are legal no matter the mounting angle, while a thin profile limits damage from external impact. These lights feature separate connectors, so they will not impact the functionality of your customer’s existing harnesses.
Grote also offers a matching Stop/Tail/Turn light for those vehicles that have separate turn lights. If you are looking for a streamlined design to reduce inventory and limit changes to the vehicle, all while protecting the longevity of the lamp, this lamp will fit the bill nicely.

Vehicle Maintenance to Conserve Fuel
Proper Tire Inflation
Properly inflated tires last longer and increase fuel economy. Every decrease in pressure by 1 pound per square inch for four tires can decrease fuel economy by 0.3%. Some fleets use nitrogen inflation, tire pressure monitoring systems, and other technologies to maintain optimum tire pressure.
Recommended Motor Oil
Fleets can improve fuel economy by 1% to 2% using the manufacturer's recommended grade of motor oil. For example, using 10W-30 motor oil in an engine designed to use 5W-30 can decrease fuel economy by 1% to 2%. Similarly, using 5W-30 in an engine designed for 5W-20 can decrease fuel economy by 1% to 1.5%.
Motor oil labeled "Energy Conserving" in the performance information contains friction-reducing additives that improve fuel economy.
Engine Tune-Ups
Tuning a neglected vehicle or fixing one that failed an emissions test can increase fuel economy by 4% based on the repair type and quality. Repairing a serious problem, such as a faulty oxygen sensor, can increase fuel economy by 40%.

Top 10 Tips 2015: - Towing
Lots of light commercial vehicles can be seen towing trailers around the country every day and we reckon that a great many of them are probably breaking the law. As soon as you hitch a trailer to a pick-up, light truck or van, a whole new set of problems present themselves and it's important that you understand these if you want to stay safe and legal.
There are a number of things to be considered. Can the vehicle tow such a big trailer? What exactly are drivers entitled to tow on their licenses? Does the vehicle need a tachograph?
The rules and regulations can be fairly complicated, but here we have simplified them as much as possible so that readers will be able to get all their questions answered in one hit...
1 Can your van take it?
Every LCV has a maximum braked trailer weight that can be towed. You need to check in the handbook to find what it is and make sure you don't exceed that limit. It's not just a case of risking being caught by the police and the DVSA and being fined. You could cause an accident too, in which case expect to have the book thrown at you in the courts.
2 Check your licence entitlement
Isuzu D-Max TowingYour driving licence shows the categories of vehicle you may drive including the size of trailer that you're allowed to tow. Older drivers are at an advantage here as the rules changed in 1997. If you passed your driving test before 1 January 1997 then you will most likely be entitled to drive a vehicle and trailer up to a combined Maximum Authorised Mass (MAM) of 8.25 tonnes.
If, however, you passed your driving test after 1 January 1997 then, unless you have taken an additional driving test — the B+E van and trailer test — you may only drive a van coupled with a trailer up to 750kg MAM, or one over 750kg MAM as long as the combined weight of the van and trailer is less than 3,500kg Gross Train Weight (GTW).
3 Watch out for overloading
There are two 'musts' here. Firstly that the load is evenly distributed over the wheels and not at one end of the trailer and secondly, that the trailer isn't overloaded. Each trailer has a weight limit and it's important to stay within it. And while we're at it, make sure loads don't stick out of the sides further than 305mm and out of the back by more than one metre.
4 Be aware of tachograph laws
How many big vans do you see on the roads towing a trailer without a tachograph fitted? Lots in our experience and they are mostly all illegal. Basically, if a van and trailer have a gross vehicle weight of more then 3.5 tonnes then they need to have a tachograph fitted, bar a couple of circumstances that we'll explain later.
This means that with a fully loaded 3.5 tonne van such as a Ford Transit or Mercedes-Benz Sprinter, if you attach so much as a skateboard on the back you'll be over the magic limit. You have been warned.
And don’t forget that if a tacho is fitted each driver of the vehicle will have to have a digital Driver Card to operate it. Cards cost £19 from the DVLA and are valid for five years.
5 Could you be exempt?
Isuzu Grafter TowingThere are two main ways you can circumvent the problem of fitting a tachograph. Firstly if you aren't carrying goods for hire or reward and secondly, if you don't travel more than 33 miles, or 50km, from base in a day. The first may be true if, say, you are taking a load of rubble to the dump. You aren't exactly carrying it for reward unless you are being paid to do so by someone else.
It's all a tad woolly, but one thing is certain; if you are stopped by the police or by the lads and lasses from the DVSA, don't expect them to just swallow any yarn you may spin them. They will want you to produce proof that you are exempt because of the above two reasons.
6 Unbraked trailer limits
If your trailer is unbraked, the maximum you may tow (combined weight of trailer and load) is 750 kg or half the kerbside weight of the towing vehicle, whichever is the LOWER. Otherwise the trailer has to have its own set of brakes.
7 Check your width
Until recently UK regulations on trailer width were different to the rest of Europe; the maximum width allowed here was 2.3m compared to 2.55m across the channel. UK rules changed in April 2010 and you are now permitted to tow a trailer or caravan up to 2.55m in width behind a goods vehicle weighing less than 3,500kg.
8 Get your brackets right
Mercedes Sprinter TowingTowing brackets must be tested to the appropriate British or European standard and use mounting points recommended by the vehicle manufacturer. Vans registered since 1 August 1998 must only be fitted with a 'type approved' bracket tested to European Directive 94/20/EC. The bracket will have a label, plate, or stamping detailing the type approval number and the vehicle for which it is an approved fitment.
9 Check your trailer
Before the start of every journey there are a number of checks that should be made. The obvious ones are to check tyre pressures, ensure all lights are working, make sure the number plate on the trailer is the same as the one on the van — and not obscured — and ensure that the wheel nuts aren't loose. All loads should be securely strapped down so bits don't fly off when you go round a corner.
10 Take care on the roads
It may sound obvious but it's easy to forget you have a trailer if you are cruising up the motorway. Your van won't feel the same as it did when it was just pulling itself so make sure you leave plenty of room to manoeuvre and don't start breaking the speed limits etc. Bear in mind that when towing, you are restricted to a maximum speed of 50mph on single carriageway roads, and 60mph on dual carriageways and motorways, provided no lower limit is in force.
We strongly recommend that if you are not familiar with maneuvering with a trailer, go to a quiet place somewhere and practice; it does take some getting used to, especially when reversing..

Mismatched Tires Steer Toward Winter Trouble
By Bruce Smith
As we head into fall it's a good time to start thinking about how to outfit your pickup truck with winter tires.
We know some pickup owners try to save a few dollars by swapping in more aggressive tires on the rear of their pickups to improve winter traction, or they buy two new tires instead of four to keep expenses down.
We're here to say those owners are headed in the wrong direction.
At least that's the expert opinion of Mark Cox, head instructor and director of the Bridgestone Winter Driving School in Steamboat Springs, Colo.
"You should always install winter tires on your vehicle in sets of four, whether you have a rear-, front- or all-wheel-drive vehicle," Cox said. "Using two different types of tires on your vehicle will negatively affect its handling."
Cox explained that putting tires with better traction on the rear of a pickup — or any vehicle — will cause the back to push the front in corners, which is called "understeer."
Putting better tires in front will have the opposite: effect, oversteer, where the rear tires are likely to lose grip before the front.
Cox also said the handling effects of mismatched tires applies to all road surfaces and driving conditions, adding that low-traction surfaces like snow, mud and wet pavement will magnify the effects because the fine line between vehicle balance and traction are at their narrowest margins in those circumstances.
To maximize vehicle control and safety always buy tires in matched sets of four and rotate them frequently to ensure all four contact patches — the area of tread that touches the ground — have the same level of traction.
We recommend you don't shortchange your pickup truck's safety by swapping out just a pair of tires when upgrading to a full set would be a better choice.

Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) Cleaning at North Bay Truck Center
North Bay Truck Center has installed the state of the art FSX Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) cleaning equipment to help our customers keep their engines performing effectively by removing up to 94% of the captured soot from the DPF filter. Cleaner DPF equals longer filter life too and these filters are very expensive to replace.
Diesel
Particulate Filters are quite expensive to replace and can be
regenerated by periodic deep cleaning. This will enhance the performance
of your truck's exhaust system and help your truck get maximum fuel
economy and effectiveness. Your DPF filter may only need cleaning every
250,000 miles or much sooner depending on your engine and how it is
maintained. Dirty exhaust means the soot will clog the filter sooner, so
you will want to make sure that your engine is serviced regularly.
Every truck will be different as every driver is different.
We
chose FSX because FSX has a proven cleaning method that gets the most
soot out of the filter and North Bay Truck Center has installed the
complete cleaning system including the TrapBlaster™ Pneumatic Cleaner,

Can you avoid truck repair?
Truck repair is avoidable to an extent. If you regularly service and maintain your truck you can avoid truck repair and the associated tension and loss while enjoying the benefits of increased mileage. You are practically spending more than half of the time you are awake in the truck and it is with you passively helping you, making your livelihood. It's working doubly hard as you do, five days a week, all day, in stop-and-go traffic, in the heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, etc., It's high time you stop and pay it back or it's going to leave you stranded.
Truck repair is essentially a demanding expense in your business. As long as you have the owner's manual it is going to come handy telling you categorically when to take it for a service maintenance. In its absence how often should you change fluids, check brakes, etc.? Unfortunately, there is not a single answer. There are several variables to consider - the climatic condition your truck is subjected to, the fuel used, the age of your truck, etc., and of course its type.
Another crucial question is how often you are taking care of its service maintenance. Are you doing it yourself or having it done by a technician? Either way, you will have to be proactive in keeping a time log in terms of the service maintenance frequency.
Preventive Maintenance
The adage "prevention is better than cure" will apply squarely for your truck maintenance.
Best Practice Daily Checks
• Regardless of the age and type of the truck you are running, many of the basics are the same. Make it a habit to do a visual check of your truck. This is just to make sure it's clean and sparkling.
• Next, you should do a basic safety check by checking the lights (including hazards), tire condition and air pressure. It is crucial to check fluid levels daily, engine oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Get your brake line inspected, spark plugs inspected and filters replaced regularly. These can warn you about bigger repair problems beforehand.
• Look underneath your high-mileage truck for signs of fluid leaks, they shouldn't be ignored. If left unattended to they can turn into expensive truck repair jobs.
• Listen for unusual sounds, such as thumps, bangs or pings. These could be warning signs that your truck needs serious attention. Keeping track of any new noises and info on when they started may help your mechanic to diagnose the problem.
Best Practices for increased mileage
• Tire pressure is critical! It is a proven fact that you can improve your gas mileage by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This will also ward off unexpected flats and blowouts.
• Performing regular tune-ups on you truck will keep your truck's engine running at top speed.
• Stick to a certain mechanic who knows the history of your truck.
• Another most important system to the "health" of your engine is the lubrication system; clean oil in your truck is like healthy blood in a human body so change it every three months.
Therefore, it is better to learn how to maintain your high-mileage truck to keep repair bills at a minimum and enjoy increased mileage. The concept is quite simple - maintain the truck before it becomes too late and breaks down. Remember, a stitch in time saves nine. Regular truck maintenance multiplies profits and reduces truck repair instances.

Equipment Positioning Critical When Towing Equipment With Pickups
2014 Silverado towing rear_BS26003Load placement key to keeping within factory towing guidelines for a safe tow
One of the biggest mistakes pickup owners make in towing is exceeding the truck’s hitch tongue weight.
This leads to overloading the truck’s rear suspension, creating significant handling, braking and potentially serious business liability issues.
Moving a piece of equipment, such as a 9,000-pound Bobcat compact loader, six inches forward or back on a tandem-axle equipment trailer can change the tongue weight 600 pounds.
So load positioning is critical if you want to be in compliance with the pickup manufacturers’ towing guidelines.
Every pickup has a set limitation on how much tongue weight can be placed on the hitch (noted in the owner’s manual), and every hitch shank has a load limit (noted on the shank) as to how much it can safely support.
The two capacities ratings are not always equal, but the lowest number always takes precedence.
For instance, the majority of ½-ton pickups only allow 500 pounds of tongue weight while ¾- and 1-tons with 2-inch receivers generally max out at 1,200 pounds.
The newer HD pickups with 2 1/2-inch receivers may be rated to support up to 1,700 pounds tongue weight.
Weigh-Safe Hitch shows tongue weight right on the hitch ball mount for accurate reading.
Note: Vehicle manufacturers also require 10- to 15 percent of the trailer’s loaded weight on the hitch ball.
So if you are towing a loaded trailer that tips the scales at 9,700 pounds, you should have between 970 and 1,115 pounds on the tongue (hitch ball), with 12- percent being ideal as that gives you a little leeway toward being too heavy or too light.
Too little tongue weight leads to trailer sway — and too much adversely affects the pickup’s braking and steering.
The easiest way to ensure tongue weight is set in accordance to the pickup manufacturer’s requirements is to use a scale such as those offered by Sherline or using a built-in hitch unit from Weigh-Safe.
Sherline’s scales are capable of reading tongue weights up to 5,000 pounds, although the 2,000-pound-capacity model is sufficient for most pickup trailer towing applications.
The easiest, fastest way to check tongue weight is to use Weigh-Safe’s adjustable-height drop-shank system. It has a built-in scale that shows tongue weights up to 1,500 pounds.
Sherline scale accurately measures trailer tongue weight.
Using Sherline’s scale requires placing the scale under the trailer coupler and slowly lifting it with a floor jack into the coupler until the jack is supporting the weight of the trailer tongue.
For both weigh systems, read the dial on the scale. If the weight is too high or too low, adjust the position of the load or equipment on the trailer until the number is correct.
If a piece of equipment is going to be hauled on the same trailer all the time, it’s good to paint or mark the trailer bed to indicate where the bucket edge or a tire needs to be positioned to keep that weight balance correct. – Bruce W. Smith

Six Tips for First Time Towing
These are the most important issues to consider when towing:
1. Weight compatibility
The most important factor to consider when towing anything is weight compatibility — cars and trucks have specific towing weight limits. Know how much your tow rig and your trailer weighs. A simple trip to the local scales will get you started. Make sure that your tow vehicle can handle the weight you plan to tow. Follow manufacturer recommendations wherever possible. Every vehicle capable of towing will have a posted maximum tow rating. Check your owner's manual first, but manufacturer websites should also have the information.
2. Understand the language of towing
Towing has a language all its own, and you need to learn it for buying, towing and following the law in your state. There are many acronyms in trailering and most have to do with weights and capacities. Below are just some of the most important:
Max tow rating: The largest total weight recommended by the tow vehicle maker that a particular rig can tow safely.
Gross vehicle weight rating (GVWR): This is the total amount of weight a fully loaded truck can carry safely as determined by the manufacturer. The total number should include passengers, fluids, cargo and any applicable tongue weight.
Gross combined weight rating (GCWR): This is the total allowable weight of a fully loaded tow vehicle and trailered vehicle that includes all tow vehicle occupants, cargo, fluids, tongue weight and accessories. One mistake often made is underestimating the total weight of your truck and trailer. Making another trip to the local scales with a fully loaded setup is recommended.
Gross trailer weight rating (GTWR): You should be able to find this on a metal tag attached somewhere on the trailer frame. It states the maximum allowable weight of the cargo and the trailer combined.
Gross axle weight rating (GAWR): This describes the maximum weight a single trailer axle can safely carry, independent of the rest of the rig.
3. Hitch balls are critical safety gear
The hitch ball is attached to the tow vehicle receiver hitch. Many vehicles come with a factory-installed receiver that are typically attached to the frame or reinforced section of a unibody. Higher-quality aftermarket hitches are available as well, but all should be clear about exact weight rating capabilities. The ball itself supports some trailer weight and couples the trailer with the truck or car. Trailer hitches are categorized by tongue weight, and as hitch numbers climb, so does the tongue weight it can handle.
Towing Mirrors II
Tongue weight, or the amount of weight on the vehicle's hitch, is an important issue. If your tongue weight is less than 10 percent of the weight of the fully loaded trailer, the trailer will probably sway a bit, making it difficult to control. On the other hand, if you have too much weight on the tongue (let's say more than 15 percent of total trailer load weight), your tow vehicle's rear tires can overload (and overheat) and push the rear end of the vehicle around; this makes stopping and handling curves and cornering difficult.
4. Always use safety chains
Nobody who wants to tow safely would fail to make sure the trailer and tow vehicle are attached, not only between ball and tongue, but also with strong safety chains. Experienced towers cross the chains under the trailer tongue so in case of a catastrophic separation, the trailer and the hitch are less likely to separate. Be sure there is enough chain slack to make turns, and always be sure the chains will not drag on the pavement.
5. Trailer load balance is important
Most manufacturers recommend you distribute 60 percent of the weight of the trailer load over the front half of the trailer. After you have the load balanced correctly, make sure that cargo is secured with straps or tie-downs. When cargo shifts, your load becomes unbalanced, making your trailer unstable and less predictable.
6. Driving with a trailer
At the risk of oversimplifying the point, driving with a fully loaded trailer — when done properly and safely — is not much more difficult than driving your tow vehicle empty. However, do not confuse the two as the driving techniques and vision strategies are very different. Most people tow a boat, a camper or perhaps a car trailer to a show or race.
First, use common sense. Second, when driving with a trailer, everything you do should be done at half the speed without the trailer. This means turning and stopping will take more time — so allow twice the distance for the increased mass. Also, remember to allow for your extra length when you change lanes. And, finally, be sure to watch for objects and/or situations far enough ahead of you to react with plenty of time. Look much farther ahead than normal so you'll have plenty of time to slow or change course if an unanticipated person or vehicle comes into your path.
Most experienced towers prefer pickup trucks over SUVs and full-size cars. Pickups generally have better power-to-weight ratios and more torque than cars, and extra power is needed for hauling trailers up hills and mountains. Generally speaking, full-size pickups can handle more trailer weight than a car or SUV mainly due to their stronger frame construction, but you'll need to weigh quite a few factors when deciding on the right vehicle for your needs.

Kenworth offers tips on spec’ing dump trucks
In today’s market, it is especially important to consider spec’ing your next new dump truck with both vehicle productivity and driver comfort and satisfaction in mind.
Bed materials, shape, capacity and other features go a long way toward determining a truck’s productivity. If your choice of dump body helps to haul a half-ton more than the next guy, you’re not just going to be more profitable. That half-ton is going to win you contract after contract over the vehicle’s life, Kenworth says. But payload is only part of the productivity equation.
