Monster Trucks

A monster truck is an automobile, normally a pickup truck that has been customized, with very large wheels and suspension, and is used for amusement. Many times, they are featured along with Motocross races.

Usually, in a monster truck show, a monster truck crushes smaller vehicles beneath its massive tires. Monster trucks can run up and over most man-made obstructions, and hence they are equipped with remote shut-off buttons, called Remote Ignition Interrupter (RII). This is done to prevent an accident if a driver loses control at any time. The term "monster truck" was coined by United States Hot Rod Association founder Bob George.

Driving a monster truck is somewhat like "figure skating" with a huge truck. Drivers are free to choose their own routes around a track and its barriers. They often try a 'Donut', also called a Cyclone, which involves rotating a truck at a high speed, in a circle, even intentionally rolling the truck over. Additional items, such as a movable home, are frequently placed on a track for drivers to crush them.
Monster trucks now have specially made tubular chassis, with engines, just behind a driver, and these engines usually run on methanol. Axles are modified to have a terrestrial gear reduction at the core to help turning tires. All trucks are supplied with hydraulic steering in both the front and the rear, and front wheels are controlled by a steering wheel and rear wheels by a toggle switch.

As far as safety issues are concerned, a driver's seat is in the center of a cab for better visibility, and there are clear floorboards for easier navigation. Drivers need to wear fire-suits, and helmets, and most moving parts on the truck are safeguarded.

Monster trucks are popular in rural areas of the United States, and people from cities are also becoming attracted to them. They are frequently portrayed as a form of motorized professional wrestling and have names rather than numbers and sponsors.

Become a Truck Driver

Are you unemployed? Or have you worked in an office for years and want something different to do to earn a living? I know Doctors, Lawyers, Police Officers, CEO, etc. who have decided that after years of service that they were either tired of it, or just didn't think that their field was worth it anymore. They are now truck drivers, going all over the country sight seeing and getting paid for it.

Anyone can be become a truck driver, provided they are not felons and are not alcoholics or drug abusers. All you have to do is get in touch with an accredited truck driving school. Most companies now that will only hire from these type of truck driving schools.

Just as when you try to go to work anywhere nowadays you must pass a pretty extensive background check to even be considered for these truck driving schools. Once you get accepted to the school, the first thing you will be required to do is a Drug Test. This is the first of many Drug Test you will endure through out your new career as a Truck driver.

The next step is a DOT Physical, this requirement is to make sure you are physically able to be a Truck Driver. You may want to read through what is involved in the Physical because this is what disqualifies most people from getting into a Truck Driving School.

Now that you have this out of the way, you must find a way to pay for this school. Some companies will give you a pre-hire letter. This means that they will offer to pay for this school upfront but you must agree to stay on employed with them until the debit has been paid, usually within a year or so. They will take this out of your check, each week.

Now you have your hire letter and everything is set, the school has called you and set up a time for you to get started. Most schools will provide you with a way to get to the school, and a motel/hotel for you to stay in while in school. Of course you are the one paying for this. They will most likely provide transportation to and from their school to the motel/hotel and DOT physical and Drug Test.

Lets say you will arrive on Sunday before school begins on Monday. You get checked into the motel/hotel, go swimming, get something to eat etc. but do something relaxing. Because when the school begins it is grueling, they only have 3 weeks to teach you.

This is broke down into part classroom work and then part yard/road training. Here is a table I created from PTDI a school that come highly recommended.

Basic Operation - includes Orientation, Control systems, vehicle inspection, basic control, shifting, backing and docking, coupling and un-coupling. 18(22) hours of classroom and 24(29) hours for range and street/road driving.
Safe operating practice for Basic Operation - includes visual search, vehicle communication, speed management, space management. 8(10) hours classroom and 17(20) hours street/road driving.
Advanced Operating Practices - includes night operations, extreme Driving conditions, Hazard perception, Emergency maneuvers/Skid avoidance, Skid control and recovery, Passive (unmarked or uncontrolled) railroad crossings. 14(17) hours of classroom and 3(4) hours of yard/driving.
Vehicle Systems and reporting malfunctions - includes Identification and Maintenance, Diagnosing and Reporting malfunctions. 6(7) hours of classroom and 0(0) hours of yard/driving.
Non Vehicle activities - includes Handling and Documenting Cargo, Environmental issues, Hours of service requirements, Accident procedures, Managing life on the road/Personal Resources, Trip Planning, Communication Skills.43(52) hours of classroom and 0(0) hours of yard/driving.

This is a total of 148 hours minimum and 178 hours maximum. This accredited truck driving school will teach you the basics of truck driving, they will most likely teach enough to know to get your CDL License.

So if you can pass a Drug Test, and DOT physical and are not a felon or a drug abuser, and you want to change careers give Truck Driving a chance.

How to Get Commercial Truck Insurance Coverages

If you have started your own business where you may use trucks to make deliveries, than the primary thing that need to be in your head is that you need to get commercial truck insurance. Trucking insurance is very different from car insurance even though they do the same thing. The first factor for this is the size of the vehicle, semi trucks are very large. Being larger also means it has more power and mass and during an accident is essentially a wrecking ball on wheels. Think about that next time you try to force one over.

Having a truck out on the road may be one of the most expensive assets in your company so you need to make sure you do everything you can to keep it protected and insured. It saves your lot of money. Risky situations can be seen and met anywhere in the open road, and the damage it may cause to future victims and the equipment can be costly enough to bring a company down. And that's why truck owners think about the best truck insurance.

There are too many parts to a policy to get a quote just online and think something is covered when it is really not. One example to think about is gap insurance. That is a policy that coves the value of the truck compared to what is still owed on it.

Commercial Truck Insurance Coverage's that every owner/operator should be concerned with are:

* Primary Liability Insurance: * Bodily Injury Insurance * Hospital and medical bills * Rehabilitation * Long-term nursing care * Funeral expenses * Lost earnings * Pain and suffering * Other damages * Non-Trucking Liability Insurance * Medical expenses or death caused to other people * Property damage caused to other people * Physical Damage Insurance * Collision insurance * Comprehensive insurance * Fire and Theft with Combined Additional Coverage's * Other Commercial Truck Insurance Coverage's that you should consider: * Uninsured Motorists * Motor Truck Cargo Insurance * Most insurance carriers will help you with financial responsibility filing for state and federal filings

Truck Insurance is not something you want to start a business without, especially if you have valuable assets on the road and away from your business. The business owner has to worry about their trucks on the road. It is therefore preferable to obtain an estimate for insurance for commercial trucks to ensure that wealth and businesses are protected.

Thinking About Buying Some Truck Accessories? - Read This

If you are thinking of buying truck accessories for your truck, there are a few things you need to consider before doing so. Things such as what needs tweaking, what needs more feature, what can I do to make this look like this, where can I go to buy the truck accessories I need, and how many accessories should I buy first. These are common questions for many who are looking to beautify their trucks by accessorizing.

Truck Accessories have the potential to provide a truck with many useful features, as well as enhancing the beauty of the truck. There is a never-ending list of accessories available which can be classified into interior and exterior accessories. Both these types have their own function. It's up to you to make the choice as to what function you choose.

In general the most popular truck exterior accessories include bumpers, fender flares, graphics, emblems, grille guards, hood ornaments, hoods, scoops, mirrors, racks, cargo accessories, roll pans, running boards, splash guards, tool boxes, truck steps, tire covers, visors, wings and spoilers.

Interior truck accessories may include, liners, consoles, racks, dash covers, trim, door accessories, floor mats, horns, instrument panel covers, seat covers, seats and steering wheel covers. The effectiveness in investing in interior truck accessories not only make you more comfortable while driving. They also keep the interior clean, and give the truck that "new" look that most people want to hold on to.

If you are planning to buy some accessories, you must remember that the list literally can go on and on, bringing some people to confusion. What you need to have in your truck and for what purpose will definitely help you choose the best and appropriate accessories. When you have decided to add a few modifications to your truck by adding truck accessories, it is highly recommended that you do a little research before choosing.

One thing you must remember is this, some accessories bring beauty, while some accessories bring comfort. Before running out and buying 30 different truck accessories, your best bet is to take a look at the main reason you are buying first. Start out with a couple of truck accessories at a time, then work on buying more once you have stepped back and taken a look at what you have done so far.

Buying truck accessories is another thing. It is much easier to shop online for truck accessories, then to go to 10 different stores searching. Not only does it save you time, it also save you money. Most stores that sell accessories online, offer discounts to those who buy a certain amount, or even for just choosing to shop online. While purchasing accessories online, you have the option to see everything that is offered, at multiple sites if needed, from the comfort of your home or office.

Last but not least, when buying accessories, whether it be online or in store be smart and stay informed. Do not let someone sell you something that you do not want, or have no idea where it goes. Stick to what you want, and try not to over do it. Sometimes more is less, but in the case with trucks, less is sometimes more.

Prevent Your Commercial Dump Trucks From Breaking Down!

The effective operation of commercial dump trucks depends toa large extent on whether preventive maintenance is set up for each vehicle and properly carried out at the appropriate intervals. Preventive maintenance is undoubtedly one of the best ways to cut costs and minimize breakdowns by trying to avoid any costly repairs, especially while on a job.

Preventive maintenance helps you protect the financial investment you have in your vehicle as well as allows you to keep your commitments to your customers. Your clients will not stay with you very long if you cannot keep your commitments to them and deliver your service on time.

Following is a list of preventive maintenance tips to help you keep your commercial dump trucks operational and providing service to your customers. A thorough basic inspection that is done on a regular basis will alert you to any potential problems and allow for inexpensive replacement of a part rather than complex and expensive repairs caused when a part breaks down while the vehicle is operational. This should be done on a regular basis, both before extended usage and after prolonged usage.

•Tires - Check for overall tread wear as well as tire pressure. If you have dual tires, be sure to check the inner tire as well as the outer tire.

•Fuel - This may seem a little redundant - of course you would check your fuel to make sure you have enough! Were you aware that lower quantities of fuel cause engine deterioration? Make sure to use a better quality fuel and consider a lubricant to boost the capacity.

•Wipers - You have to be able to see out the front of the cab so make sure your wipers are functional as well as not too worn to be of value.

•Coolants - This level should be maintained at a proper balance. If the level varies to any extent, you may have some leakage going on that would need to be repaired right away.

•Head lights - These are the 'eyes' of your commercial dump trucks andmust be working properly in both high beam and low beam. Anything else certainly needs to be taken care of before any night driving.

•Turn Signals and Brake Lights - This is similar to the head lights as they must function for not only your safety but the safety of those with whom you share the road!

•Horn - This is a vital piece of safety equipment that must be checked on a regular basis and repaired or replaced if not functioning properly.

•Air Filter - This should be changed on a regular basis to keep your engine properly performing and avoid potential engine problems. Retain the date of the last change for your records.

•Oil Change - Keeping the oil changed as recommended by the truck manufacturer is imperative and should be checked before each trip to see if you will need a change while on the road. It is much more cost-effective to do this as planned rather than have an urgent need and not be able to shop around for the best place and price.

•Hoses, especially Fuel - This is one of the items that is easily and inexpensively replaced before problems - and highly costly to repair the damage caused when one breaks while the truck is in use.

•Brake Oil - The level and quality should be checked regularly to ensure proper braking capacity and is a very important safety concern.

•Power Steering Fluid - Another safety item to ensure that the driver can properly steer the truck with ease.

•Fire Extinguisher - Make sure you have one and that it has not expired and/or needs to be recharged. This could save your life and the lives of others in an emergency situation!

To ensure that routine preventive maintenance is done, you can enlist the services of a shop that is trained and perhaps licensed for your brand of commercial dump trucks. They can maintain a record of your vehicle and notify you when it is time to come in for a scheduled preventive maintenance inspection. In the internet age, you can also purchase software that is designed to track equipment maintenance and alert you via email of when preventive maintenance items should be handled. If you can handle the maintenance items yourself, it would be a very cost-effective tool to utilize.

A breakdown while performing a job can cost you not only in terms of money; it can cost you in customer trust and loyalty if you have to delay completing a job you have committed to perform for a customer. Take care of your commercial dump trucks so you can take care of your customers - it is that simple!

Can you avoid truck repair?

Truck repair is avoidable to an extent. If you regularly service and maintain your truck you can avoid truck repair and the associated tension and loss while enjoying the benefits of increased mileage. You are practically spending more than half of the time you are awake in the truck and it is with you passively helping you, making your livelihood. It's working doubly hard as you do, five days a week, all day, in stop-and-go traffic, in the heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, etc., It's high time you stop and pay it back or it's going to leave you stranded.

Truck repair is essentially a demanding expense in your business. As long as you have the owner's manual it is going to come handy telling you categorically when to take it for a service maintenance. In its absence how often should you change fluids, check brakes, etc.? Unfortunately, there is not a single answer. There are several variables to consider - the climatic condition your truck is subjected to, the fuel used, the age of your truck, etc., and of course its type.

Another crucial question is how often you are taking care of its service maintenance. Are you doing it yourself or having it done by a technician? Either way, you will have to be proactive in keeping a time log in terms of the service maintenance frequency.

Preventive Maintenance

The adage "prevention is better than cure" will apply squarely for your truck maintenance.

Best Practice Daily Checks

• Regardless of the age and type of the truck you are running, many of the basics are the same. Make it a habit to do a visual check of your truck. This is just to make sure it's clean and sparkling.

• Next, you should do a basic safety check by checking the lights (including hazards), tire condition and air pressure. It is crucial to check fluid levels daily, engine oil, power steering fluid, brake fluid, and transmission fluid. Get your brake line inspected, spark plugs inspected and filters replaced regularly. These can warn you about bigger repair problems beforehand.

• Look underneath your high-mileage truck for signs of fluid leaks, they shouldn't be ignored. If left unattended to they can turn into expensive truck repair jobs.

• Listen for unusual sounds, such as thumps, bangs or pings. These could be warning signs that your truck needs serious attention. Keeping track of any new noises and info on when they started may help your mechanic to diagnose the problem.

Best Practices for increased mileage

• Tire pressure is critical! It is a proven fact that you can improve your gas mileage by keeping your tires inflated to the proper pressure. This will also ward off unexpected flats and blowouts.

• Performing regular tune-ups on you truck will keep your truck's engine running at top speed.

• Stick to a certain mechanic who knows the history of your truck.

• Another most important system to the "health" of your engine is the lubrication system; clean oil in your truck is like healthy blood in a human body so change it every three months.

Therefore, it is better to learn how to maintain your high-mileage truck to keep repair bills at a minimum and enjoy increased mileage. The concept is quite simple - maintain the truck before it becomes too late and breaks down. Remember, a stitch in time saves nine. Regular truck maintenance multiplies profits and reduces truck repair instances.

How Tires Are Built

1. Radial tire manufacturing starts with many kinds of raw materials: pigments, chemicals, some 30 different kinds of rubber, cord fabrics, bead wire, etc.

The process begins with the mixing of basic rubbers with process oils, carbon black, pigments, antioxidants, accelerators and other additives, each of which contributes certain properties to the compound.

These ingredients are mixed in giant blenders called Banbury machines operating under tremendous heat and pressure. They blend the many ingredients together into a hot, black gummy compound that will be milled again and again.

2. The cooled rubber takes several forms. Most often it is processed into carefully identified slabs that will be transported to breakdown mills. These mills feed the rubber between massive pairs of rollers, over and over, feeding, mixing and blending to prepare the different compounds for the feed mills, where they are slit into strips and carried by conveyor belts to become sidewalls, treads or other parts of the tire.

Still another kind of rubber coats the fabric that will be used to make up the tire's body. The fabrics come in huge rolls, and they are as specialized and critical as the rubber blends. Many kinds of fabrics are used: polyester, rayon or nylon. Most of today's passenger tires have polyester cord bodies.

3. Another component, shaped like a hoop, is called a bead. It has high-tensile steel wire forming its backbone, which will fit against the vehicle's wheel rim. The strands are aligned into a ribbon coated with rubber for adhesion, then wound into loops that are then wrapped together to secure them until they are assembled with the rest of the tire.

Radial tires are built on one or two tire machines. The tire starts with a double layer of synthetic gum rubber called an innerliner that will seal in air and make the tire tubeless.

4. Next come two layers of ply fabric, the cords. Two strips called apexes stiffen the area just above the bead. Next, a pair of chafer strips is added, so called because they resist chafing from the wheel rim when mounted on a car.

The tire building machine pre-shapes radial tires into a form very close to their final dimension to make sure the many components are in proper position before the tire goes into the mold.

5. Now the tire builder adds the steel belts that resist punctures and hold the tread firmly against the road. The tread is the last part to go on the tire. After automatic rollers press all the parts firmly together, the radial tire, now called a green tire, is ready for inspection and curing.

6. The curing press is where tires get their final shape and tread pattern. Hot molds like giant waffle irons shape and vulcanize the tire. The molds are engraved with the tread pattern, the sidewall markings of the manufacturer and those required by law.

Tires are cured at over 300 degrees for 12 to 25 minutes, depending on their size. As the press swings open, the tires are popped from their molds onto a long conveyor that carries them to final finish and inspection.

7. If anything is wrong with the tire - if anything even seems to be wrong with the tire, even the slightest blemish - it is rejected. Some flaws are caught by an inspector's trained eyes and hands; others are found by specialized machines.

Inspection doesn't stop at the surface. Some tires are pulled from the production line and X-rayed to detect any hidden weaknesses or internal failures. In addition, quality control engineers regularly cut apart randomly chosen tires and study every detail of their construction that affects performance, ride or safety.

8. This is how all the parts come together: the tread and sidewall, supported by the body, and held to the wheel by the rubber-coated steel bead. But whatever the details, the basics are fundamentally the same: steel, fabric, rubber, and lots of work and care, design and engineering.

Real Car Guys Know...ACDelco

Is your engine not turning over? The first step is to check the battery connections. They need to be securely fastened, clean and corrosion-free. If the battery is supplying adequate electricity and the car is still not turning over, the mechanical components of the starter may be faulty. The starter is part of the vehicle's cranking system, which also includes the battery, wiring and control switches.

Do your headlights dim during use? Your alternator could be the problem. The alternator recharges the battery and supplies electrical power when the engine is running. If the vehicle's electrical requirements exceed the alternator's output, then the additional electricity comes from the battery, draining it over time. This leads to your headlights dimming and is one of the signs of a faulty alternator.

If you experience these symptoms, it is time to see a Real Car Guy about a manufactured alternator or starter. Unlike a rebuilt alternator or starter that has only faulty components repaired, the ACDelco manufacturing process replaces all faulty components within the part, plus the ones that are subject to wear, with premium-quality components. The new components ACDelco uses incorporate the latest technology, which may include improvements made since the part was originally manufactured. These improvements are something no rebuilder can match. No wonder Real Car Guys won't settle for anything less!

Tensioners

OE Form, Fit and Function. That’s what a Gatorback® Belt Tensioning System is designed to match, so you can be sure it will install – and perform – as well as the OE tensioner. Plus our Gatorback line is engineered for approximately 80% of the world’s vehicles so you can count on great coverage.

The primary advantages of a well-designed automatic belt tensioning system are:

  • Maintains its correct alignment to the belt
  • Automatically maintains correct accessory belt tension
  • Automatically dampens normal accessory system vibrations
  • Eliminates need to adjust / re-tension belts
  • Prevents belt slip (noise / excessive belt wear)
  • Optimizes belt life

Goodyear Air Springs

Bellows air springs have one, two or three convolutions in the flexible member. There are two styles of bellows:
  • crimped design
  • sleeve type
With the crimped design, the end retainers are permanently attached by mechanically crimping the retainer around the built-in bead wire of the flexible member.

Sleeve type bellows offer similar characteristics to the crimped design bellows, but, as with the sleeve type rolling lobe the flexible member is constructed without internally molded bead wires. The end retainers are permanently attached by pinching the flexible member between the end retainers and external crimp rings which are then swaged to the proper diameter.

Sleeve type bellows offer the lowest force to compress of any type of air spring.

Baldwin Channel Flow Air Filters

Baldwin Filters' patent pending Channel Flow air filters provide superior filtration solutions in a lightweight, compact design for easy installation in less space. This straight-through air flow technology not only allows for less installation space, but offers manufacturers flexibility in design configuration.

The Baldwin Design

Baldwin's Channel Flow filter has more surface area than a traditional air filter, while requiring the same or less installation space. The Channel Flow media is formed by layering alternating rows of flat sheets and corrugated media. When completed, the media resembles a honeycomb network of channels.

As the media pack is formed, alternating channels are sealed with a bead of adhesive. Air enters open channels and flows through the media and out through adjacent open channels.

Increased air flow is needed for higher performance engines. Increased air flow is also needed to meet tougher exhaust emission standards.

With a traditional air filter, air typically enters through the side of the filter housing. The air must then work its way around the filter element, pass through the media, then turn 90° to exit the filter. By eliminating the turns the air needs to make in a traditional air filter, in-line air filters reduce restriction.

First Class for All Classes - Deka

The Intimidator...

Superior starting power, high reserve capacity and long lasting life, there's no match for the DEKA Intimidator Battery. The DEKA Intimidator batteries are an exact fit for many automotive applications such as: GMC, Chevy, Dodge, Chrysler, Ford, Lincoln and many more! Advanced AGM technology with dual purpose design makes the DEKA Intimidator great for quick starts and plenty of competition-quality accessory power for:

  • Stereo Systems
  • Boat & RV's
  • Hydraulic Lifts
  • Winches
  • On-Board Electronics
  • Industrial & Commercial Equipment and many other power demands
As the commercial user's needs change, so do our products. More and more trucks are depending on extra power for their electronics, tailgates, extra lights, HVAC systems, and many other power drains. These loads are becoming so great that starting batteries are experiencing severely shorter life cycles...through no fault of their own! Starting batteries simply aren't designed to deliver the continuous ultra-deep discharges that new auxiliary equipment demands, often when the engine is not running.

To meet the changing needs of large and small users and OEMs, we designed our premium starting and cycle service battery that can accommodate these auxiliary loads...but, also provide the high starting power needed to crank larger engines. Our unique Absorbed Glass Mat commercial battery is not only built for power, but it is vibration-resistant, spillproof and leakproof, maintenance-free, and delivers faster recharging and longer cycle life. From heavy-duty starting dump trucks to sleeper cabs maxed with accessory loads, these AGM batteries will work great for almost any application.

Thank You!! Our Customer Appreciation & Open House Was A Huge Success!

Thank you one and all for coming out to our first NBTC Customer Appreciation & Open House on July 8th, 2010. Several hundred people came by and enjoyed some food, drink, displays, monster truck, show cars, race cars and much more. Prizes were flowing--matter of fact, every attendee won a prize!

Thank you to all of our special vendors who helped make this event a success. A special thanks to Ramos Oil for bringing their famous hot dog cart and feeding us with those premium dogs. If it weren't for them, it could have been ugly when our propane tank ran dry on the BBQ grill in the middle of roasting our chicken. As it was, everyone had plenty to eat and there was a bit left over for the employees.

Thank you again for your participation. We appreciate it very much and look forward to doing this again in the future!
