Motorhome Service at North Bay Truck Center

North Bay Truck Center is becoming the go-to place for motor home chassis work. That is because if you take the shell off of a motor home, you take the body off of it. Let’s say, for example, a diesel pusher. It’s really a bus chassis. It’s really built by the manufacturers. Some of them that built the motor home chassis also built big trucks, Freightliner, for example. For us, if we’re under the motor home or we’re looking into the engine compartment, we’re really looking at the same picture as we are if we’re looking on a Class 6, 7 or 8 truck.

We are well versed on the platforms of engines that they use, primarily, they use Cummins or Caterpillar engines on some of the older ones. For the diesel pushers, we’re very well versed on those engines. We have the computer software to plug into them. We’re familiar with the Allison transmissions that are most all of them use. The braking systems on a lot of them are airbrakes, similar to that of a Class 6 through 8 truck. They also have suspension components that are shared. They use air ride suspension on the front axle a lot of times, which is found on the newest class 6 through 8 trucks. We’re very familiar with the chassis of the diesel pushers.

North Bay is also going to be able to look up maintenance schedules on those as well. Motor homes generally will come with all manuals in a big binder referring to your refrigerator, your heating system, air conditioning. If your vehicle is new, you should have the Cummins manual for the engine and in the case of the Freightliner chassis, a Freightliner chassis manual with maintenance intervals for that chassis as well as the engine, again, we can help look those things up if you don’t have the manuals.

On the diesel pushers, we have a facility large enough to bring the biggest unit into the shop. A 45-foot 3-axle diesel pusher, we can bring it in to our shop and it can be kept under cover. If it does require to be outside or you have surveillance cameras outside our shop, we can assure that the place is lock down that the cameras are working 24/7. Even the nicest motor homes, you can rest assure they’re going to be locked up and safe in our facility.

The smaller coaches that are built on a gasoline chassis such as Ford or Chevrolet, or even the Sprinter chassis, those we’re familiar with and able to recode with our standards. Again, it’s a Ford van setup or a Chevrolet van, or GMC chassis. Very similar to the pickup trucks so we’re well versed on those, braking systems, air conditioning. When it comes to the chassis, air conditioning on all motor homes. The air that comes out of the dash registers, we work on. The overhead air which is the roof mounted air, we do not work on, but we can definitely get the dash air working if you have an issue with air conditioning. We work on all of the components on the light duty coaches. This is the diesel pusher, but it comes from the Springer chassis up to the Ford and the Chevrolet chassis and there’s some new ones coming out.

Bearings, tires, the rear differential, the transmission, the steering components. Everything to do with what makes it go down the road and stop for sure.

When it comes to tires, as with the trucks, it is just as important with the motor homes and it’s a huge area that is neglected on motor homes because they sit so much. They develop flat spots in the tires, and they can get to the point where you have a side wall cracking. In some cases, UV rays really heat up the rubber over years of it’s being exposed, and then you flat spots developing because the coach, the way that it coaches is just one spot on the tire. Now, you got a tire that is not round any longer and it won’t fix itself if it’s bonded into the rubber. The only way to get rid of that is you replace the tire. We do sell and install tires on any motor homes, from the class piece on it to the big diesel pushers. We’re able to balance the biggest tires on the diesel pusher as well. We have a large tire balancer here that we recently purchased.

North Bay recently purchased 6 Mohawk pedestal lifts that will allow us to lift the largest diesel pusher up in the air outside of our facility. If we’re not able to work on it inside or get it on one of the lifts inside and the work should require to be underneath it, we’re able to lift the vehicle up in the air.

TYMCO Model 600 Regenerative Air Street Sweeper

The TYMCO Model 600 is both extremely reliable and incredibly powerful. Whether you're sweeping city streets during leaf season, cleaning up on a construction site or sweeping behind a milling machine or road reclaimer, getting the job done with the Model 600 is quick to perform and easy to operate. Not only is it built using the high-efficiency, time-tested TYMCO Regenerative Air System that provides unprecedented reliability, but it also delivers incredible performance and an amazingly clean sweep.

The Model 600 is, quite simply, the sweeper that changed the industry. Before it, all sweepers were designed in one of two ways -- either a mechanical main broom (100% broom sweeping) or a vacuum (which still requires a main broom for 75% of the sweeping path to transfer debris to the vacuum head). Mechanical main brooms introduce additional expense and complexity, and vacuum sweepers, by the nature of their design, have to exhaust all air used while sweeping which can contribute to poorer air quality in harsh sweeping environments.

The Model 600 delivered and still delivers excellent performance without a mechanical main broom or exhausting dusty air -- giving you a low total cost of ownership and a more environmentally friendly sweeper.

Restoration of Military Trucks

North Bay Truck Center provided maintenance services for restoring these military trucks.

FAIRFIELD — With a grumbling roar, the engine of the imposing-looking Army Super Mack truck rumbled to life, putting a smile on Herm Rowland’s face.

It is the first time that Jelly Belly Candy Company’s chairman, Herman Rowland Sr., has ridden in the large green Army truck that he acquired last year to become part of his nascent collection tentatively called the American Freedom Military Vehicle Collection.

All-New Ford F-650/F-750 Medium-Duty Trucks Are Tough on Work, Quieter on the Ears

  •     2016 Ford F-650/F-750 powered by Ford-designed and -built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 diesel engine is 25 percent quieter inside the cabin at 60 mph than the previous model
  •     2016 Ford F-650/F-750 with available 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine at idle is as much as 45 percent quieter inside the cabin and 35 percent quieter when outside the truck in front of the grille
  • All-new F-650/F-750 goes on sale this summer and will be built at Ohio Assembly Plant

INDIANAPOLIS, March 3, 2015 – Ford is lowering noise levels in the all-new Ford F-650/F-750 – the company’s toughest, smartest and best-value F-650/F-750 medium-duty commercial trucks ever – to give drivers and their customers a quieter, more comfortable experience inside and out.

Thanks to its exclusive Ford-designed and -built 6.7-liter Power Stroke® V8 turbocharged diesel engine, those inside and outside the truck will notice a quieter, more refined sound compared to the previous F-650/F-750’s diesel engine.

“Our all-new F-650/F-750 medium-duty trucks are purpose-built to give our hardworking vocational customers maximum capability,” said John Ruppert, general manager, Ford Commercial Vehicle Sales and Marketing. “While the truck is able to work harder, we also made life inside the cab easier. Lowering in-cab and exterior noise levels improves driver comfort and minimizes disturbances while idling at work sites.”

The 2016 Ford F-650/F-750 powered by the Ford-designed and -built 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine is 25 percent quieter inside the cabin at 60 mph than the previous model, with noise levels dropping to 68 decibels from 74 decibels. At idle, noise levels are improved as much as 45 percent, dropping to 48 decibels from 63 decibels.

Decibels measure the intensity and power of sound. Each 10-unit increase represents a 10-fold increase in sound power, so a 10 decibel sound is 10 times more powerful than a zero decibel sound, and 20 decibels is 100 times stronger than zero decibels.

Advanced and quiet diesel engine

The 2016 Ford F-650/F-750 with the available 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 diesel engine is 35 percent quieter at idle than the previous model for a listener standing outside in front of the grille.

Ford is the only medium-duty truck manufacturer that designs and builds its own diesel engine and transmission combination – ensuring the powertrain will work seamlessly with all chassis components and vehicle calibrations. This approach enables Ford engineers to optimize vehicle performance across the entire lineup and further refine the powertrain to specific customer needs.

Enhancements to the Power Stroke combustion system, structural integrity of the compacted graphite iron block and single turbocharger mounted to the engine block account for many of the noise, vibration and harshness improvements over the previously offered diesel engine.

Specific design upgrades were made to the fuel injectors to optimize the combustion process, which features a two-stage combustion event instead of a single-injection event, further avoiding harsh, sudden and loud combustion. A starter or pilot fuel injector in the 6.7-liter engine begins the compression process before the main injection. The result is smoother combustion with less diesel clatter and a reduction of intrusive engine sound both inside and outside the truck.

At idle, two pilot injection events are used to make the firing process even smoother and to aid in quietness. The “ticking” of the high-speed injectors is masked by specially designed covers on the engine.

Mounting the engine’s turbocharger inside the engine block valley also brings improvements in overall noise, vibration and harshness.

“We used smart engineering and our unique Power Stroke engine architecture to create a powerful yet quiet diesel for our commercial customers,” said John Davis, chief engineer, Ford Commercial Vehicles.

In addition to quieter operation, the 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 turbo diesel engine will feature three engine power ratings, including best-in-class standard diesel horsepower and torque, and no vocational limits on top ratings.

The three diesel power levels available for the 2016 Ford F-650/F-750 are:
  •     Best-in-class standard 270 horsepower, 675 lb.-ft. torque
  •     300 horsepower, 700 lb.-ft. torque
  •     330 horsepower, 725 lb.-ft. torque
Multiple ratings provide customers the flexibility to scale engine power to work applications and operations.

The 6.7-liter Power Stroke V8 comes with a five-year, 250,000-mile warranty.

In addition to its Power Stroke diesel engine, Ford remains the only automaker in the segment to offer a gasoline-powered engine for a medium-duty truck. The 6.8-liter V10 engine with 320 horsepower and 460 lb.-ft. of torque is now available for both F-650 and F-750 models with the TorqShift® heavy-duty six-speed automatic transmission. The 6.8-liter V10 engine can be factory-prepped for converting to compressed natural gas or propane autogas as cost-effective alternatives to gasoline.
